Ashley Graham, a plus-size model model from Lincoln, Nebraska, is everything except rethinking what it intends to be over a size 12 in the style business. You've transformed into a style extremist. How has this whole adventure been for you?
It's been totally astonishing. Extraordinary. Strange. Groundbreaking. That is to say, I'm, similar to, as yet shaking from being out on the runway. It was stunning.
Why lingerie? It appears as though you're a lady who is sought after. You can do any accumulation that you'd need to.

But, I really like to encourage myself, because then there's moments like this where you're like, half-naked in front of the whole world and you have to pull it together. And who better to pull it together for you than yourself?

A lot of girls look to you as a role model now. How do you feel about that?
I
feel amazing! I mean I think there're not enough celebrities out there
talking about fat roles and cellulite and being a woman who has what
society calls imperfections, and I'm happy to be that woman. I'm happy
to embrace the women around me and encourage other women to feel
comfortable in their skin no matter age, race, or size. I think
there's a generation that we really need to start talking to and
it's the younger generation.
How do you find that those girls communicate to you? Do they spot you on the street? Do they reach out on social media?
You know, ever since I was in Sports Illustrated,
I get stopped on the street all the time. It's crazy. Especially if my
hair is down. I don't know what it is but they're like, "[Gasp]
Are you Ashley?" They think we're besties, and they like want to hug
me, and tell me what's going on in their life. It's adorable. I love it.
I get lots of fan mail. I get lots of Instagram posts. Girls are just,
first of all, saying "thank you."
I could see that.
Yeah! There
was one girl the other day that wrote me and, it was like, five
paragraphs, and I was like "Alright, what is this?" Then she wrote
that she has been bulimic for about six years. She's a sophomore in
college. And, she said she's very thin. She watched my TED Talk, woke up
the next morning and said, "you know what? I'm not going to throw up
anymore. I decided today." She watched my TED Talk, and she saw the
confidence I had in my body, and she wanted toexude that.
Wow.
That
kind of stuff gives me chills. I'm not just changing a curvy woman's
mind, I'm encouraging every woman. And I think that's really what I want
to do. Because it's about being inclusive. Yes, my runway show might
only be for a curvier woman with bigger breasts, but my message is for
every woman.
Do you find that girls ask you for advice when it comes to lingerie?
All the time! I was in Victoria's Secret the other day and
a woman thought I was one of the workers, right? And I was like, "Oh,
well first of all, this cup is too small and your back band is too big."
And she was like "It is? This is the size that the lady gave me," and I
was like "No honey." And I went and got her a new bra! And I was
thinking, if she only knew.
